Dr. Burghard König

Burghard König has more than 35 years of industry experience in senior management positions at Hoechst, Aventis, Sandoz and Novartis and is founder and CEO of Koenig & Funk Biotech GmbH. He was project leader of the recombinant human insulin production at Hoechst which still makes a major contribution to Sanofi's sales today. As head of production he was also responsible to bring several fermentation and semi-synthetic antibiotic production processes to large-scale operation under full GMP. He has also experience in modern environmentally friendly chemo-enzymatic production processes. In addition he was Speaker of the Board of the Austrian Center of Industrial Biotechnology (ACIB) for about 10 years.

His broad expertise covers all areas of the pharmaceutical value chain, from R&D, API-production and operations, supply chain management to strategy and corporate development (including due diligence projects). Burghard by training is chemist and biochemical engineer.

Since 2019 he has supported several projects and transactions as advisor and consultant for investment funds and has also been working with mid-sized pharma companies on strategic projects. Since 2020 Burghard is associate partner of Fidelio Healthcare.
